Arraiolos is a historic Alentejo village, known for its carpets and its circular castle, one of the only ones in the world.
There are documentary references from the 16th century that prove the manufacture of the Arraiolos carpets. At that time they were a reflection of power and abundance, becoming an important element of social, political and religious life. Nowadays the Carpet of Arraiolos is the main business card of this beautiful village of Alentejo.
In the narrow streets, whitewashed houses, the carpet comes alive in the hands of the embroiderers, who make each carpet a unique piece.
Capital of the Alentejo, Évora is also worth a visit. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986, Évora owns a rich cultural heritage, built and preserved over time.
