Situated on a small steep island on the Tagus River, Almourol castle is one of the most emblematic medieval military monuments of the Christian Reconquista in Portugal.

Delivered to the Templars, the castle was rebuilt, assuming the architectural and artistic characteristics that we can still observe.

Near Almourol we will find Tomar, the city of the Knights Templar in Portugal. In Tomar, you will breathe History, art, and legends.

The most important monument in Tomar is the Convent of Christ. Its construction dates back to 1160 and is closely linked to the beginning of Portugal as an independent kingdom, and the role then played by the religious and military order of the Templars. In 1983 UNESCO declared the Templar Castle and Convent of Christ as a World Heritage Site.
